Woman raped with TREE BRANCH dies two years later from internal injuries resulting from the horrifying attack
Anna Barmina, 33, was stabbed and beaten before being dragged into bushes by Gizar Ziyangareev where she was sexually assaulted ‘with a broken branch’
A WOMAN who was raped with a tree branch has died from internal injuries two years on from the horrifying attack.
Anna Barmina, 33, was stabbed and beaten before being dragged into bushes by Gizar Ziyangareev where she was sexually assaulted “with a broken branch”.
Doctors in Ufa, Russia, said “all her internal organs” were damaged in the attack which caused her to have a heart attack and left her in a coma.
She regained consciousness almost a year later but never spoke again as a result of the trauma.
Anna also never left her hospital bed and lost a significant amount of weight before eventually succumbing to her injuries.
She was one of four women raped in a week by Ziyangareev, who is now serving a 23-year prison sentence – the longest ever handed down for a rape in Russia.
He carried out the attacks after being released from jail for previous violent sexual attacks on a neighbour and an underage girl.
After he attacked Anna, he stole her laptop and mobile along with around £745 in cash.
Anna’s mother Natalia called him an “inhuman monster” and demanded the death penalty while local police said they had never come across such a brutal and cruel attack.
Ziyangareev recently had a month shaved off his sentence after pleading that he had three dependent children and an elderly mother who he wanted to support.
After the sentencing, Natalia, who buried her daughter today, said: “I just cannot understand how the court could give such a lenient term.
“Anna will never get up, she will never speak.
“And he will get out of jail one day and continue to rape.”
Anna’s family said the reduction in his jail term, even by a month, sends out the wrong signal.
Her cousin Adel Galiev said: “The family is indignant at the arrogance of this person.
“How does he dare, after all that he did, ask for some kind of mitigation of his punishment while covering himself with his children and mother?
“Especially since he is a repeat rapist.”
An unnamed police investigator who detained Ziyangareev said: “He told me he does not regret anything he did.”
‘Inhuman monster’ who raped four women in a week told police he’d done nothing wrong and his victims ‘should be grateful to him’
- Gizar Ziyangareev, 39, handed one of Russia’s longest ever sentences for rape
- One of his victims suffered a heart attack and went into a coma
- Her mother has called for a return to the death penalty
- Ziyangareev had only just been released from prison for two rapes
An ‘inhuman monster’ who raped four women in a week told police he did nothing wrong and his victims ‘should be grateful to him’.
Gizar Ziyangareev, 39, admitted the attacks – one of which left a 31-year-old woman in a coma after suffering a heart attack – but showed no remorse, Russian police have reportedly revealed.
Construction worker Ziyangareev was jailed for 23 years for the rapes, which happened in the western city of Ufa.
It is one of the longest sentences ever given to a rapist in Russia – but the mother of one of his victims has called for a return to the death penalty.
He had only just been released from prison, having previously raped a neighbour and an underage girl.
The rapist was caught after a brutal attack on Anna Barmina, who he assaulted with a knife and fists before dragging her into bushes and raping her with a broken tree branch.
Doctors said all her internal organs were damaged, causing her to have a heart attack and go into a coma.
Eleven months after Ziyangareev raped her, she still hasn’t spoken due to the trauma, and has lost around 30kg in weight.
The 31-year-old was left for dead, after having her money, mobile phone and laptop stolen.
Senior detective Alexander Guryev said: ‘This crime deeply shocked us with its cruelty.
‘We have never come across anything similar.’
Top investigators dropped all other cases they were working on in order to prioritise catching Ziyangareev.
He was arrested after 10 days after police examined the profiles of 107 known rapists.
Ms Barmina’s mother said: ‘I did not go to the trial because I think my daughter needs me here and I do not want to waste my energy on this inhuman monster.
‘Such people must either be completely isolated from society, or I ask to return the death penalty.
‘My pain is too severe to go and see the person who has wrecked the life of my girl.
‘I cannot afford negative emotions, I have to be strong.’
Describing the ordeal her daughter had gone through, Ms Barmina’s mother continued: ‘The Lord twice saved my daughter – she survived that terrible day, and then came through the coma and heart attack.
‘Every day I pray that she will be the same happy person she used to be, that she can smile and enjoy life.
‘I hope we will find a doctor who can help us.
‘My daughter is alive, that is the main thing.
‘We sleep, wake up in the morning, listen to music but I want her to be able to live.’
Another victim the same week was aged 42, but details of his conviction for raping and robbing three other women in September 2015, and two further similar cases in 2009 and 2010, have not been released.
The serial rapist confessed to his crimes but did not repent, said police.
The Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reports: ‘He told police he did nothing bad to these women and they should be grateful to him.’
A friend of Ms Barmina said: ‘This attacker is not a human, he’s a monster.
‘I just cannot understand how the court could give such a lenient term.
‘Anna will never get up, she will never speak… she has no future because of what he did.
‘And he will get out of jail one day and continue to rape.’
A police source said: ‘Ziyangareev never had problems with women, in fact he had many lovers.
‘He had been married in the past and has two daughters and a son.
‘He easily got acquainted with women and they did not feel anything wrong with him.’
