Terrorists Resort to False-Flag Chemical Attack Scenario again amid Syrian Army Rapid Advances in Douma
TEHRAN (FNA)- Terrorists have embarked on launching a false-flag chemical operation in Douma to blame the Syrian Army for the attack, field sources said Sunday, reminding that the Syrian and Russian military forces had continuously warmed of such a move by Jeish al-Islam terrorists.
The sources said that Jeish al-Islam has attacked residential areas in the town of Douma in Eastern Ghouta by poisonous gas to blame the army for the chemical assault.
The sources went on to say that the Jeish al-Islam front is collapsing under the rapid advances of the Syrian army units in Douma, adding that the terrorists’ resort to false-flag chemical attack is aimed at preventing the government forces from driving the terrorists out of the region.
On Saturday, rebel-linked activists, including the notorious ‘civil defense’ group White Helmets, accused the Syrian government of carrying out a chemical attack that allegedly affected dozens of civilians in the militant-controlled town of Douma in Eastern Ghouta. The Syrian government, which regards the White Helmets as a foreign-funded terrorist propaganda mouthpiece, rejected these “fabrications.”
In the meantime, the Russian Defense Ministry warned on Saturday that Jeish al-Islam and the Free Syrian Army are to launch gas attack on Douma.
Also, local source in Douma had reported Jeish al-Islam’s preparation for launching chemical operation in the region.
In relevant development on March 20, the Russian Defense Ministry said, citing a tip from a local, that militants holed up in Eastern Ghouta were preparing to stage a “false flag” attack to accuse the Syrian government forces of using chemical weapons against civilians.
The Russian Reconciliation Center received a phone call from one of the residents of the al-Wanar quarter of Eastern Ghouta, who warned of possible preparations for a “provocation” with the use of chemical agents.
According to the tip-off, Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front) terrorists placed “hermetically sealed containers”, which could contain poisonous substances, next to a self-engineered turbine on one of the roofs in the Damascus suburb.
“The terrorists, according to (the caller), could use those preparations to spray chemical agents in residential areas, which will lead to a large number of casualties among civilians,” Major-General Yuri Yevtushenko announced at the time, adding that “The mass poisoning of civilians will be used to accuse the government troops of the use of chemical weapons against peaceful citizens.”
That was not the first time Moscow raised concerns about possible provocations using chemical agents in Syria. Russia believes that such an attack will be widely covered in the Western media and may ultimately be used as a pretext by the US-led coalition to launch strikes against Syrian government forces.
Russia’s Defense Ministry stressed last month that “US instructors” were training militants to stage false flag chemical attacks in Southern Syria. The incidents were said to be a pretext for airstrikes on Syrian government troops and infrastructure.
“We have reliable information at our disposal that US instructors have trained a number of militant groups in the vicinity of the town of At-Tanf, to stage provocations involving chemical warfare agents in Southern Syria,” Russian General Staff Spokesman General Sergey Rudskoy said at a news briefing on Saturday.
“Early in March, the saboteur groups were deployed to the Southern de-escalation zone to the city of Dara’a, where the units of the so-called Free Syrian Army are stationed,” he added.
“They are preparing a series of chemical munitions explosions. This fact will be used to blame the government forces. The components to produce chemical munitions have been already delivered to the Southern de-escalation zone under the guise of humanitarian convoys of a number of NGOs,” the Spokesman stated.
The planned provocations will be widely covered in the Western media and will ultimately be used as a pretext by the US-led coalition to launch strikes on Syria, Rudskoy warned.
“The provocations will be used as a pretext by the United States and its allies to launch strikes on military and government infrastructure in Syria,” the official stated.
“We’re registering the signs of the preparations for the possible strikes. Strike groups of the cruise missile carriers have been formed in the East of the Mediterranean Sea, Persian Gulf and Red Sea,” he added.
Another false flag chemical attack is being prepared in the province of Idlib by the “Al-Nusra Front terrorist group, in coordination with the White Helmets,” Rudskoy warned.
The militants have already received 20 containers of chlorine to stage the incident, he said.
Washington repeatedly warned that it would conduct more air strikes against Syrian forces if chemical weapons are used in the country.
In January, just before various factions of Syrian society gathered for the Syrian National Congress in Sochi, reports of a chlorine gas attack on the outskirts of the Syrian capital were used to attack the legitimacy of the reconciliation process. At the time, former US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson took advantage of the alleged attack to blame Russia for all the chemical weaponry-related incidents in Syria, regardless of who actually conducted it.
Since last month, Syrian government forces have been carrying out operation Damascus Steel to clear EasternGhouta of armed Islamist units that have been terrorizing the locals for years. After the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution proposing a 30-day humanitarian ceasefire in Syria, the Russian Reconciliation Center has been focused on evacuating civilians out of militant-controlled east Ghouta.
